2020 Election results

Following are the results of the June 25, 2020 elections:

President:  John Kunard   – re-elected

Treasurer:  Michelle Hamel  –  by acclamation

Shop Steward for Caretakers/Maintenance/Mechanics:  Doug Lohmaier  -re-elected

Shop Steward for All Others Classification:  Denise Vermette – by acclamation

3 Yr Trustee:  Dot Stewart  – re-elected

Thank you to all those members who were nominated and took part in these elections. Thank you to the members of the executive who worked so hard to plan, set up and keep the election process moving so smoothly, safely and efficiently today.  AND, a big thank you to all of you who took the time to come and cast your vote.  Thank you to our Rep, Janice for your work and support and guidance through this process.

June 17, 2020 Elections

New nominations have been submitted for positions in the upcoming elections on Thursday, June 25th at Midtown Hall.  Poles will be open between the hours of 3:30 – 6:30 PM

We are hoping that you are all keeping safe and healthy.

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic restrictions, we were unable to hold our May General Meeting at which elections were to take place.  At that time, we did not have access to our office or to Midtown Hall as it was turned into a Covid testing site.  We now have access back to the building but we are still under group gathering restrictions,    Because of these restrictions, elections will be held similar to regular elections with a polling station open for access at Midtown Hall on June 25th from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM.   Executive members will be present to assist and to answer questions.

Nominees  Names of nominees may be submitted to Debbie Lorenzen at  dlorenzen@live.com.from June 9th to June 15th at 3:30 PM.  Names of all nominees will be posted on this website after the deadline.

Update: Wednesday, June 3, 2020

Bargaining Update:    Our bargaining team (John Kunard, Debbie Lorenzen, Sharon Gosselin, Bonnie Kuppenbender, Denise Vermette) will be meeting, June 4th to finalize CUPE 4195’s proposal to be presented to our SRSD management team.

UPDATE – Friday, May 08, 2020

Monday, May 11 – Friday, May 15, 2020 school staff will be allowed in their schools to finalize  year end work and prepare classrooms for the summer scrub.

Caretaking staff will return (full time day shifts) to their schools to begin the summer scrub on Tuesday, May 19th.  Mike will be sending out information to all Head Caretakers regarding a conference call on Monday May 11th @ 8:30 AM. to discuss the changes that need to be made to comply with all COVID-19 protocol.

At this time, due to COVID-19 restrictions and protocol, we will not be having a General meeting in May.  Please watch for further notices.




UPDATE – Friday, May 01,2020

The following update has been received from the management of Saskatchewan Rivers School Division regarding the following work groups.

10 Month Employees will continue to work from from home, unless specifically requested to be on site by their immediate supervisor. Please note, that school closures for all on site classes will remain in effect until June 30, 2020. 
12 Month Employees will continue to work from home, (with the exception of caretakers who do a daily school check and maintenance staff)  unless specifically requested to be on site, from March 20 – June 30, 2020 inclusive.  If individual employees or groups of employees are expected to be on site during this time frame a notice will given by their supervisors.  A deep clean of each school/facility /building in the school division will be initiated in the coming weeks.  When this begins, it will be communicated by Mike Hurd

Update April 29, 2020

Monday, May 4th our Maintenance staff will return to work with all COVID 19 safety protocol to be followed and respected.   Mike Hurd will be holding a conference call on Friday, May 1 @ 8:30 AM with Maintenance staff to discuss a plan going forward.

10 Month Employees will continue to work from home, unless specifically requested to be on site.  At this time, Monday, May 11th will be the earliest date these employees will return to working on site.  This date is tentative, so continue to watch for updates.

12 Month Employees will continue to work from home unless specifically requested to be on site until May 11th inclusive. This date is tentative so continue to watch for updates.   Those caretakers who do daily checks of their facilities will continue to do so.

Re-opening Saskatchewan Plan recently released by Premier Scott  Moe is a plan for re-opening the provincial economy.  The plan serves as a guideline for businesses and services to gradually re-open and allow for more people to return to work.

The re-opening process is set to happen in five phases. As restrictions are gradually lifted, the Government of Saskatchewan and it’s Chief Medical Health Officer will carefully monitor daily the COVID 19 situation in our province as we proceed to move forward.

Education is considered to be in phase five of the plan.  While phases one and two are scheduled to be implemented by May 19th, 2020, dates for implementations of the other phases are yet to be determined.






Update – April 25, 2020

CARETAKERS, MAINTENANCE staff will not be returning to work on April 27th as previously indicated in a prior update.  The new tentative date for return to work for caretakers and maintenance staff is now Monday, May 4th.  This is tentative so please watch for updates.
We have contractors who are working in some of our schools as well as some maintenance employees who are out monitoring the snow melt situations in some of our facilities.
No other new information regarding other work groups have been forwarded to me at this time.

UPDATE – April 8, 2020

For many employees this is nearing the end of the third week from working from home.  I am hoping this transition is going well.

All 10 month employees will continue to work from home, unless specifically requested to be on site from March 20 – April 27th. inclusive.  Most schools have completed their parent contacts and Supplemental Learning Programs are now in place.  EA’s are assisting with program package deliveries and in any other way that they are needed to support continued education for all our students.

All 12 month employees will work from home, unless specifically requested to be on site from March  20th – April 27th inclusive.  All head caretakers continue to perform daily checks of their assigned facilities.

If individual employees feel the need to be on site for any reason, this must be prearranged with the principal or supervisor of the facility.

Remember, that it is expected that all employees are to be accessible and available during their regular work hours.  Also, posting on social media during work hours, unless it is related to teaching and learning, is highly inadvisable.  All CUPE employees continue to receive regular wages based on the current CUPE 4195 contract.
